Graduated from Texas State Technical College, Waco TX, in 1972 earning a degree in Electronic Technology.

Hired by Western Geophysical Company in 1972 as a junior observer and quickly promoted to observer. Ran 35 man recording crews in the southern US. In 1975 became a field service technician. Repaired and maintained recording systems throughout North and South America. In 1980 became a quality control technician in Westerns field system quality control department in Houston. Was promoted to manager of the same department in 1981. Analyzed and reported on semimonthly tests for as many as 70 recording systems and 200 vibroseis units world wide. Also ran acceptance tests and analysis on all new prospective recording systems being brought into production by Western. Developed test manuals for all Western recording instruments and all vibroseis source units. Managed a tape library consisting of 5000 test acquisitions which were archived to mitigate any data acquisition issues that arose in data processing. Maintained the archival of 2000 impulse test responses, which were used by data processing groups to remove instrument responses. Departed the now called WesternGeco in 2003.

In 2003, met with future partner MacDonald Smith, to discuss the feasibility of offering a 3rd party field system test and analysis service to the seismic industry. Throughout the year provided specifications for a contemporary software package to handle field system test analysis and reporting. In 2004 formed the partnership S&R Seismic Services, LLC
